IAN MACLEOD THE BLACK AND WHITE TRIBE wood and acrylic paint, tallest height 63.5" -- 161.3 cm., unsigned Provenance: Purchased directly from the artist Note: IAN MACLEOD "I'm intrigued by patterns found in nature. I paint in an intuitive manner with sweeping gestures of opaque and transparent layers of paint to create surface texture and depth - focused on pure abstraction. Like a spiritual journey my work emerges from my consciousness. As in meditation, I am present in the moment. The paintings are not titled, but are identified by their composition number - hence the meaning of a title will not affect the viewer's understanding or connection to the work. The intent is for viewers to transfer their own experience and perceptions to the work." - Ian MacLeod - Ian MacLeod studied Fine Arts at the University of Manitoba and Advertising Art at Red River College. He worked as an illustrator from 1970 to 1972 in Winnipeg and moved to Ottawa where he worked as an exhibit and graphic designer until 1977 at the Canadian Government Exposition Centre. He returned to Vancouver, working independently as a graphic design consultant. After 30 years of working in graphic design, MacLeod decided to devote his time solely to painting. He has exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions regularly in British Columbia, and lives on the Sunshine Coast.
