From 1972 to 1981, Marquant studied with Wolfgang Hollegha and Josef Mikl at the Academy of Fine Arts. He built on the abstract painting of his teachers and developed his own formal language from it. The experience of nature and the intense light of Mallorca determine his work. Bright oil paintings with abstractions of avenues and plants. Most of the pictures have no title because the abstract in them is stronger than any possible association. He applies color through movement and incorporates shapes that are reminiscent of trees and plants. In other works, vertical or horizontal color fields determine the composition of the image. Marquant lives and works in Vienna and Mallorca. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. In the case of normal taxation (marked °), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax of 13%, for photographs 20%, is added to the sum of the highest bid and the buyer's premium. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. It shows a dynamic composition in Marquant's typical free gestural painting style. The muted color palette - which is in part interrupted by a delicate violet - appears like an explosion on the paper, sometimes with impasto, sometimes with glazing paint. A student of Wolfgang Hollegha and Josef Mikl - the fathers of abstract painting in Austria -, Marquant is influenced by his models, but was also able to form his own visual language. Marquant creates 'abstractions with an individual reference to nature', intended to reflect moods and emotional states. The painting is in good condition with minor wear. In the upper area, there are slight handling marks. The sheet is matted on verso at the corners. The mat shows moisture marks in the upper right corner. The overall dimensions are 109 x 81.5 cm; the paper measures are 88 x 62.5 cm. The painting is unframed.
