Exhibitions: "European sculpture of the 20th century", European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM), Barcelona, 2014. Size: 30 cm. + 15 cm. pedestal. René Paul Marquet was a French sculptor. He studied with Émmanuel Fontaine and Alexandre Falguière at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1909, at the Salon de la Société des Artistes Français, where he exhibited regularly, he showed a plaster statue of a Zuaven defending a flag with the dramatic title Jamais! (German Niemals!), for which he received an honourable mention and was elected a full member. He was known for his Art Nouveau and Art Deco statuettes.

Sign.; In graziöser Pose stehende junge Tänzerin mit weit nach hinten gebeugtem Kopf, das Haar mit einem Kamm hochgesteckt und mit einer Rose geschmückt, in den Händen ein Tamburin und eine weitere Rose haltend. Durch ihre Eleganz und Lebendigkeit im tänzerischen Ausdruck bestechende Statuette des vielseitigen französischen Bildhauers. Marquet studierte bei Emmanuel Fontaine und Jean Falguiere an der Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris. Seine Figuren stellte er regelmäßig auf dem Salon aus und wurde dort 1909 ausgezeichnet.
