Martens, Six Views of the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe in Kassel Signed lower center: Merten (Marten?)These fresh and perfectly conserved gouaches show various views from the famous Bergpark in Kassel as seen in the early 19th century, for example the fountain, the devil's bridge, a view of the whole park and of the statue of Heracles with its accompanying fountain. This is an impressive ensemble of the kind rarely found in this size, quality and completeness.All but one of the pieces are signed by the steel engraver, engineering lieutenant and painter J. H. Martens. Alongside a famous floor plan of Kassel created in 1803, this artist also produced several series of views of Kassel and the surrounding area, as well as Marburg, Treysa, Fritzlar, the Wartburg and various other gouaches (Thieme/Becker). Five of the sheets are framed under glass of the period, two are in old frames, and four in newer frames. Each 60.5 x 82 cm
