        [James Buchanan 1791-1868] The 15th President of the United States (1857-1861) this ALS written to John Y. Mason, who served as Secretary of the Navy under President Polk. This letter was written in regards to Mrs. Dolley Madison and her state of life. Mr. John Y. Mason was a trustee in the will of Mrs. Madison. The ALS is in a finely bound leather and cloth cover, the spine dictates that it is an ALS and when it was written. It is written on one leaf folded in half. Size: Letter Folded 7 3/4" x 9 5/8". Unfolded 15 1/2" x 9 5/8. Condition: Fold marks, some toning seen.
