      ORIOL MASPONS (Barcelona,1928-2013) "Salvatore Quasimodo", 1965. Black and white photography. Measurements: 24 x 18 cm; 43 x 33 cm (frame). Maspons portrays here the Sicilian poet and journalist Salvatore Quasimodo, a member of the Italian Hermetic movement, who received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1959. Oriol Maspons was a Spanish photographer. In 1956 he joined the editorial board of the magazine AFAL although he was already known for his activity in the Agrupación Fotográfica de Cataluña and for having published photos in Arte Fotográfico and for having won several prizes in competitions. His reportage photography was associated with the style developed by the photographers of the Magnum Agency. He collaborated with the most important graphic magazines of the time, such as Gaceta Ilustrada, Paris Match, Elle, Interviu and Boccacio. He made reports in different countries such as Cuba and South Africa.3 He was an author with a special sensitivity for portraits, among which the portraits of women that he gathered in the book Oriol Maspons: Private Collection stand out. He held numerous exhibitions and some of his photographs are on display at the MoMA, although the MNAC has more than 1,500 of his photographs. He was also the teacher of Isabel Steva Hernández, better known as Colita, and other important photographers.
