      James Mathison, Venezuelan b.1966- - Torso;

      Est: £3,000 - £5,000

      James Mathison, Venezuelan b.1966- Torso; bronze, signed and number 1/8 on the base of the torso, 48cm (including base) Provenance: Private Collection, London Note: In this sculpture the artist reveals his preoccupation with the human form and its material expression, a concern that is central to much of his output. It shows his fascination with how the physical qualities of the medium shape the artwork, drawing as he does so on the rich legacy of bronze sculpture in European art. His interest in the associations of bronze and how it is affected by the passage of time is suggested by the lettering around the torso, which is reminiscent of Classical inscriptions, and by the fragmentary nature of the sculpture. The artist has kindly confirmed the authenticity of this work Please refer to department for condition report
