Esta fotografía, Matiz la tomó en México, en dónde vivió gran parte de su vida y en donde encajó muy rápidamente con la comunidad intelectual, artística y social de la época. Ahí conoce al compositor e intérprete, sobre quien lanza esta frase: "Agustín Lara […] era un animal de fiesta. La atmósfera de humo, tequila y mujeres le permitía evadir por instantes el complejo de su fealdad, la pronunciada cicatriz de su rostro, conquistada en la ruda y peligrosa vida de las cantinas […] Al final de la fiesta la diatriba sentimental de un bolero diluyéndose en su voz ronca y sucia calmaba sus demonios interiores". Firmada en el ángulo inferior izquierdo. Buen estado de conservación con faltas en el marco. Procedencia: Colección particular. Adquirido por el actual propietario directamente al artista.
