        Two scrimshaw examples of Canadian geese by Iñupiaq Mayac family artists from King Island includes a whale tooth with a quartet of geese, two flying and two standing, by Peter Mayac (1913-1976). The other features a flat walrus tusk panel depicting a pair of geese in flight by Teddy Mayac (20th/21st Century). The tooth measures approximately 2" x 1.5" x 3.5" tall for size reference.

        A whale tooth with impeccable double-sided scrimshaw imagery by the highly regarded late King Island Iñupiaq artist Peter Mayac (1913-1976). The tooth features a pair of tufted puffins resting upon a rocky perch overlooking the sea on one side and a umiak with six hunters, one with harpoon poised to strike his humpback whale prey. Signed on both sides by the artist. Measures approximately 6.5" x 3.5" x 2" tall.

        Peter Mayac (Inupiaq, 1913-1976) Loon figurine of walrus ivory with scrimshaw engraving measures 1.5 in. high x 3.125 in. long. Signed underside. No evidence of damage or repair. This item cannot be shipped to Oregon, California, Hawaii, New York, New Jersey, Internationally, or any other state that prohibits. Provenance: All items obtained in Alaska in the 1970's by a private collector. If lot is absent of a condition report one may be requested via email. Condition report is provided as an opinion only and is no guarantee as grading can be subjective. Buyer must view photographs or scans to assist in determining condition and ask further questions if so desired. Our in-house shipping department will gladly pack and ship any item that fits into a 14x14x14 inch or 30x5x24 inch or equivalent or smaller box/folio if it is not fragile or over 25lbs. We will charge for labor to pack and process based on actual time it takes, actual cost of materials used to pack and actual shipper charges that will include insurance and signature required. We generally use USPS and Fed Ex and compare the pricing between the two. Books maximum box size will be 14x14x14 inch or equivalent and will be shipped USPS Media Mail unless otherwise requested. Peter Mayac's family originated on King Island. Duringthe summers the residents would move to Nome, Alaska to sell their goods. Mayac learned to carve as a young man and became especially known for his carvings of Alaskan wildlife which have become very collectible.
