Chramosta zur Stadt Düsseldorf Wien Kärntnerstrasse 20' Dimensions: 63 x 50 cm Frame: 78 x 65 cm Good condition Seriously looking lady with braided hair wearing a black dress with white ruffles Condition: The painting is in good condition. Tiny craquelure can be seen on the canvas and there are scattered marks and small nicks. There are small spots with scuffing due to the frame along edges and corners. Several small retouched spots are affecting the face. A very small hole can be seen in the lower left part of the canvas. The dimensions are 63 x 50 cm and the frame measures 78 x 65 cm. August Georg Mayer (1834-1889) August Georg Mayer was an Austrian portrait and genre painter living in Vienna and Hungary. Mayer studied at the Academy of Arts in Vienna and was a pupil of C. Gsellhofer und C. Rahl. The artist started his career as a genre and history painter, later he focused on portraits and painted the scenes of theaters in Hungary. As an author he published his memories of one of his teachers, titled 'Erinnerungen an C. Rahl ' (1882), which are considered to be important for art and contemporary history.
