Irene Entata Mbitjana Art for Sale at Auction

b. 1946 -

Born in 1946, Irene Entata attended the Mission school in Hermannsburg and later became a founding member of The Hermannsburg Potters.

Irene is a dedicated potter, rarely missing a day’s work at the studio though older age is catching up now.

Her works are generally centred around her own interpretation of the history of her people over recent generations. Her works depicting mission day life and activity which she calls “ Mission Days “ are greatly sought after world wide.

Irene Entata’s iconic works are held in collections nationally and internationally.

Special Achievements

1992 – One of five artists selected to conduct workshops and demonstrate their pottery techniques and glaze application at the 6th South Pacific Festival of the Arts in Rarotonga, Cook Islands.

1993 – Presented at the Pacific Arts Associations 5th International Symposium.

1993 – Pressented at the 7th Annual Torres Strait Festival of the Arts in Thursday Island, Torres Strait.

2007 – Won Second Prize at the inaugral Indigenous Ceramic Art Award at Shepparton Art Museum, for her work ‘Mission Days: Rubbing Salt Woman.’
