    DESCRIPTION: "Mother with Children". Trevor McClurg (Pennsylvania, 1816 - 1893). Oil on canvas. Signed T. McClurg 1863 to lower right. In gilt frame. Trevor McClurg was a portrait, genre, history painter and photographer who was born in Pennsylvania and traveled widely throughout Europe before returning to Pittsburgh. He later moved to Chambersburg, where he primarily did commercial photography. His specialty was historical and allegorical subject matter; he operated a design school with George Hetzel in Pittsburgh and was later a drawing instructor at the Pittsburgh School of Design for Women. MEASUREMENTS: 24" high x 20" wide; frame 2-1/2" wide. CONDITION: Overall craquelure. Areas of in-painting; see black light image. Repair to end of dress. Tear to canvas along top stretcher.
