Tafeln lose eingelegt in Original-Papp-Flügelmappe mit illustriertem Deckelschild (etwas staubfleckig). Eines von 20 namentlich reservierten Exemplaren (GA 120), im Druckvermerk vom Künstler zusätzlich signiert, vorliegend ohne Nummer. - László Medgyes (geb. 1892) war in den 1920er Jahren vor allem als Bühnenbildner tätig und arbeitete in Paris. Er ist auch mit zwei Arbeiten in der vierten Mappe der von Paul Westheim herausgegebenen Folge "Die Schaffenden" vertreten. - Sechs der vorliegenden Blätter noch mit den blauen Original-Schutzhemdchen. - Gutes Exemplar.

Manufactured by Rohm & Haas Hollywood Regency style Provenance (possibly): Helena Rubenstein Estate, Parke-Bernet Galleries, April 22,1966 Literature: Over the Top by Suzanne Slesin, Pointed Leaf Press 2003 30” diameter x 14”h Good condition Auctionata possesses a level of ownership in the present lot in whole or in part, or has an economic interest in the lot equivalent to an ownership interest Estimate: $1,200-$1,800 This circular coffee table mimics the bound bamboo tables so popular at that time, but fabricated in Plexiglas, a new and exciting material patented by Rohm & Haas. The table features four splayed legs supporting a circular glass top. It is in good condition. Ladislas Medgyes (1892 Budapest, Hungary -?) Ladyslas Medgyes was a surrealist artist who also created many set designs for the theater and Opera in Paris. He traveled to the United States to exhibit his work, where he was commissioned by famed cosmetics industrialist, Helena Rubenstein, to create several pieces of furniture for her New York City apartment. Having worked previously in glass, Medgyes was intrigued by the new clear acrylic material developed by Rohm & Haas and, together, created a dining table, set of eight chairs, bed and other furniture for Rubenstein. These pieces are well documented in period photographs of the Rubenstein residence. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.

    "Plexiglas and silk upholstery USA, 1941 Ladislas Medgyes (1892) Manufactured by Rohm & Haas Hollywood Regency style Literature: "Over The Top", Slesin, p. 180; "Art Plastic: Designed for Living", Di Noto, p. 172-3. 39" x 20" x 27" (height x width x depth) Good condition Provenance: Helena Rubenstein Estate, Parke-Bernet Galleries, April 22, 1966, to private collection, to current owner. Auctionata possesses a level of ownership in the present lot in whole or in part, or has an economic interest in the lot equivalent to an ownership interest The chair has a classical form fabricated in clear acrylic. The material in this chair is the clear acrylic first developed and patented by Rohm and Haas as Plexiglas, and later produced by DuPont as "Lucite". The gracefully curved back is etched with a floral motif typical of the period and the legs and stretcher are also crafted from Plexiglas. The seat is upholstered in a pale shell colored silk, with button-tufting and piped detail. It is an early and elegant precursor to what would become known as "Hollywood Regency". It is an elegant chair which exemplifies the successful merging of traditional and modern elements. The chair is in good condition with a few light surface scratches and one small chip. The seat bears a few light stains. It measures 39"x 20" x 27" (height x width x depth). Ladislas Medgyes (1892 Budapest, Hungary -?)
