The unsigned poster is additionally wavy in the upper right image area and bears occasional insignificant defects to the right sheet egde. Howard Mehring (1931-1978) Born in Washington, Howard Mehring studied at the local Wilson Teachers College and then from 1953 to 1955 at the Catholic University under Kenneth Noland. Mehring's early works show a loose application of paint, which is close to the abstract expressionism. Later he increasingly compacted and structured his compositions towards Hard-Edge Painting.
