Meitner studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin in 1919, where he worked as an illustrator for the magazines "Simplissimus", "Jugend" and "Querschnitt". After coming to power, he emigrated to London in 1933, where he worked as a sketch artist at the London Film Company. In 1937 Meitner went to Paris; there he worked on cartoons. In 1939 he lived in the house of the painter couple Arpadszenes and Vieira da Silva in Lisbon. From there he moved to Rio de Janeiro; In 1941 he acquired Brazilian citizenship. In 1947, Meitner had a solo exhibition at the Instituto dos Arquitetos do Brasil (IAB); the following year he traveled to the United States, where he remained for two years. As an illustrator he worked for the magazines Sombra and Rio Artes. From 1952 onwards, Meitner devoted himself exclusively to painting. The present work comes from the artist's early years in Berlin. She was pictured in the magazine "Jugend", October 20, 1928, volume 33, issue 43, page 686. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. In the case of normal taxation (marked °), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax of 13%, for photographs 20%, is added to the sum of the highest bid and the buyer's premium. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
