    Bernard Meninsky RA (1891-1950) Study of a female nude pencil and black chalk 16 x 10cm Provenance: Nora Meninsky, the artist's wife; Richard Philip at the Grosvenor House Art and Antiques Fair, June 1994; the Collection of David and Sandy Fuller. David was a director of the National Horseracing Museum and a successful fine art consultant. He offered his expertise to leading galleries and auction houses, including Sotheby's and Christie's, and was a regular visitor and friend of Sworders for many years. Condition Report: Framed: 26 x 19cm The work has been executed on lined paper from a notebook. Discolouration. Stuck down in the corners. Not viewed out of glazed frame.

This painting is either Violet Mordaunt, who married the 5th Marquess of Bath, or Daphne Fielding, the first wife of the 6th Marquess of Bath. The latter was a writer and became involved with the Bloomsbury set and 'Bright Young Things' of the 1920s.

Meninsky was eventually awarded a scholarship to study at the Slade between 1912-13, following his fellow-Jewish émigré artists Mark Gertler and David Bomberg.
