              Est: €260 - €340

Chamois and ibex hunting. Numerous hunters armed with hooked spears climb a rocky mountain on the right. They have trouble climbing the vertical walls. At the right back the horses and some hunters are resting. Further back there is a wild rocky landscape with three striking mountain peaks. Rather roughly engraved sheet, entirely in the style of Antonio Tempesta. Engraving from a serie of four after the large hunting scenes by Antonio Tempesta. Published in Strassbourg by Jacob van der Heyden around 1616/1620. This early impression dates from the first half of Merian his career (in his twenties).
