    Est: -

Condition: Small nick in glaze on top rim . Bottom Base has some small chips Item Description Presenting an exquisite Émile Justin Merlot Haviland Japanese 3-Opening Limoges Earthenware Vase, a stunning piece that beautifully marries traditional craftsmanship with elegant design. This Japanese-style terra cotta vase features three openings, making it not only functional but also a striking decorative element for any space The vase is adorned with a rich cobalt blue glaze that envelops the entire piece, creating a vibrant and eye-catching backdrop. The decoration reflects Japanese artistry, showcasing delicate mauve and pink flowers on long, graceful stems, complemented by charming white floppy daisies for added accent. The leaves are rendered in an olive green hue, streaked with white, enhancing the overall beauty and intricacy of the design While the signature is slightly blurred from the kiln, it appears to bear the classic Merlot "M" underlined, a hallmark of authenticity for discerning collectors. The backmark reveals "H & Co over L" alongside a shape mark "55" and size "4" underneath, signifying the vase's lineage and craftsmanship from the esteemed Haviland factory This remarkable vase is not only a testament to the artistic prowess of Merlot but also a celebration of Japanese aesthetics, making it a perfect addition to any collection or as a statement piece in your home decor. Emile Justin Merlot (1839-1900) for Haviland & Co. earthenware Limoges vase showing a man punting in a small boat with a house in the background Limoges, France, circa 1875 high glazed ceramic impressed factory marks, an older paper sale's label, painted artist's monogram on the front of the vase 10 1/2"w x 3 3/4"d x 11 5/8"h Catalog Note: Haviland's revolutionary "decoration under the glaze" caused a stir among American ceramic circles when seen in the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia in 1876. Maria Longworth Nichols, Mary Louise McLaughlin and T.J. Wheatley all began the search for an American Limoges style soon after and the rest is history.
