About the Artist: Messick is America's first syndicated female cartoonist. After being overlooked by the then head of the New Yok Times, Joseph Patterson, the artist was discovered by Mr. Patterson's assistant Mollie Slott. A symbol of the times thought process, the artist altered her name from Dalia to Dale to sound more masculine. Brenda Starr, Reporter was one of only 20 comic strip characters- and the only female one- chosen to be honored with a postage stamp during the USPS 100th anniversary. 16.25" height, 29.5" width
