His ornithological drawings were made from nature as well as his own collection of birds. Meyer's wife aided in the engraving and possibly the actual original drawings.

    Birds.- Meyer (Henry Leonard) Coloured Illustrations of British Birds, and their Eggs, 7 vol., mixed editions, 425 hand-coloured lithographed plates (322 of birds and 103 of eggs), 8 uncoloured lithographed plates, tissue-guards, vol. 1 contemporary ink gift inscription to front free endpaper, occasional light marginal damp-staining, contemporary calf, spines richly gilt and with green and red morocco labels, some water-staining to covers, lightly rubbed, [Nissen IVB 628; Wood p. 462], 8vo, 1842-57. ⁂ A mixed set with various imprints, the seven volumes first published in 1842-50. In this set, volume 6, published by Willis and Sotheran, is undated. Even in unmixed sets the number of plates varies in most copies, reflecting the haphazard nature of publication.
