Each state has different requirements and thresholds on what is taxed and how much. Note that purchases shipped to or picked up in states that do not impose sales tax will not be subject to tax. b) Sales Tax Exemption: Lake County Florida state sales tax is 7%. Applicable Sales or use taxes will be added to the purchase price of taxable purchases. AUCTION CATALOGS: Catalogs, brochures, and internet descriptions are guides only based on information from sources believed to be reliable, but their accuracy cannot be guaranteed or warranted. Due to this, RBFineArts CFL Inc strongly suggests all potential bidders or a representative to meticulously inspect any and all items prior to bidding. Any reference to a specific time period and/or culture are only the opinion of RBFineArts CFL Inc and are not a guarantee of authenticity. Further, RBFineArts CFL Inc reserves the right to hold you liable for reimbursement for any expenses incurred because of any damage or injury. ABSENTEE BIDS: Please adhere to the bidding increments. It is possible that an item could go to another bidder for the same amount as your absentee bid. For example, if your maximum Internet bid on an item is $325.00 and the required opening bid is $300.00, the Internet auction software will only bid $300.00 since that is all that is required to start the Auction. The Auction begins with you at $300.00. The next increment would be $325.00, if no one else bids you will be declared the winner. If a live auction bidder bids $325.00, they are at $325.00, not you. In this case, we may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via the internet, you agree that RBFineArts CFL Inc. may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Internet bids are treated just like floor bids. The Auctioneer reserves the right to reject any bids that are deemed inappropriate or withdraw any item before or during the sale. In the unlikely event internet connection is lost during a live Auction, RBFineArts CFL Inc. Auction Services reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to cancel the remainder of the auction. The reserve is a confidential minimum price agreed upon by both the consignor and RBFineArts CFL Inc. Buyers should assume that all listed items are reserved unless otherwise stated. Willem van Mieris of Leiden is considered one of the most talented representatives of "Fijnschilder" (fine painter) painting, one of the artistic movements of the Dutch Golden Age that continued into the 18th century. The present painting, which is in excellent condition, is the counterpart of another work by Willem van Mieris depicting another scene from the Joseph story (Genesis 30-50), namely "Joseph and Potiphar's Wife", a painting dated 1694, which was sold at auction in New York in 2007 (Sotheby's, 26.01.2007, lot 436, $72,000). Van Mieris also made small-format versions of both compositions in watercolor on parchment, which were offered by Bob Haboldt in 2001: “Joseph and Potiphar's Wife” is now in the Pierpont Morgan Library & Museum in New York, the second sheet apparently in a private collection. A further version of “Joseph and Potiphar’s Wife” by Willem van Mieris, also executed in oil, is part of the holdings of the Staatliche Kunsthalle in Karlsruhe. The present painting probably also dates from the mid-1690s. It is defined by the stauesque calm emanating from the central figure of Joseph in the classic rhetorical pose. The counterpart, “Joseph and Potiphar’s Wife,” on the other hand, is characterised by movement and action. We would like to thank Dr Albert Elen for his valuable support in cataloguing this work.

MIERIS, WILLEM VAN Leiden 1662 - 1747 Title: Portrait of a Noble Lady. Technique: Oil. Height: 22cm. Notation: Signed and dated lower left: W. van Mieris / Fecit Anno 1690. Pedestal: Framed. Verso: On the panel an adhesive label with details of provenance. Provenance: Private ownership, Germany. The present painting is by Willem van Mieris, an important representative of Dutch fine painting. Even during his lifetime, the artist possessed a brilliance that led to his becoming a member of the important St Luke's Guild immediately after his apprenticeship in the studio of his father, who was also a painter, and repeatedly serving as Guild Captain. Contrary to tradition, he did not specialise in just one genre of painting but produced history paintings and portraits as well as genre paintings. The portrait offered here combines various genres and is therefore one of the artist's important paintings. It shows a wealthy lady who reflects the characteristic features of fine painting. Shiny fabrics surrounding the lady shimmer in the incident light. Her precious dress lifts her slightly as she looks directly at the viewer. Numerous gemstones adorn not only her gold and silver dress but also her body. The preciousness and material of the fabrics can be felt in their tactile qualities through the realistic depiction. Van Mieris' paintings adorn the rooms of the most renowned European museums. The Dresden Gemälde Galerie der Alten Meister and the Wallace Collection in London, for example, are among the proud owners of the artist's rare works. Explanations to the Catalogue

MIERIS, WILLEM VAN Leiden 1662 - 1747 Title: Portrait of Catharina van der Voort. Technique: Oil on wood. Measurement: 50,5 x 40cm. Frame/Pedestal: Framed. Verso: On the panel old details of the portrayed woman. Literature: O. Naumann: Frans van Mieris (1635-1681) the Elder, Davaco 1981, p. 180f, no. C 174. Provenance: Private ownership, Germany. The painting is documented in the database of the RKD, The Hague, under the ill. no. 14436. Catharina van der Voort (1622-74) was the second wife of Pieter de la Court, a well-known businessman and philosopher from Leiden. De la Court, who was a close friend of the politician Johan de Witt, first married his sister-in-law Elisabeth Tollenaar in 1657 and then Catharina in 1661, who came from a wealthy Amsterdam merchant family and was related to Johan de Witt. The couple had two children, Magdalena and Pieter, and moved to Amsterdam in 1665. There are several portraits of Pieter de la Court and Catharina van der Voort, both as a single figure and as a group, the most famous of which is the large double portrait by Ferdinand Bol of 1661 (Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten, Antwerp). In 1667, husband and wife were portrayed again, but this time separately, by Abraham van den Tempel (the two portraits are in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam). The portrait of Catharina van der Voort is particularly distinguished by the glitter of the precious fabrics and the rich, delicate polychromy. The two portraits by van de Tempel went to Pieter de la Court's daughter Magdalena in 1685, after his death. In the same year, her brother Pieter de la Court van der Voort had copies of these portraits made by Willem van Mieris (for three hundred guilders each) in order to exchange them with his sister for her originals. The portrait of Pieter de la Court is still in Amsterdam today, in a private collection, while the portrait of Catharina van der Voort, which is the present painting, has been in a private collection in Germany for several decades. We are grateful to Nadja Garthoff, RKD, The Hague, for confirming the attribution of the present painting on the basis of a high-resolution digital photograph.
WILLEM VAN MIERIS (Northern Netherlands., 1662-1747). "Venus and Adonis". Oil on oak panel. French period frame in carved and gilded wood. Measurements: 49.5 x 37 cm; 60 x 52 cm (frame). Willem Van Mieris embodies in this composition the new classicist trend of Dutch art in the 17th century. With a delicate and subtle style that sinks its roots in Classical Antiquity, Van Mieris offers us the myth of Venus and Adonis worked with the finesse and elegance that characterized his extensive artistic production. In it we can observe features completely identifying his style: the idealization of the female nude, an aspect deeply rooted in his studies of classical sculpture; the influence that the sculptor Van Bossuit (1635-1692) exerted on him, appreciable in the softly modeled figures; the influence of the painting of the fijnschilders or the search for absolute perfection in the details and the refinement of the features, among other aspects. Son of Frans Van Mieris, one of the most famous Dutch painters of the late seventeenth century (whose popularity crossed the border of the Netherlands, being highly appreciated by Cosimo de Medici and the Grand Duke of Tuscany), Willem Van Mieris was introduced and trained in the painting of his father. As a result of the artistic context in which he developed his work, Willem Van Mieris was greatly influenced by the ideas of the fijnschilders, a term for Dutch painters who, between 1630 and 1710, strove to represent reality with the utmost precision. However, Van Mieris' vision went further, focusing on genre painting and depicting scenes of upper-class life. Van Mieris represented the human figure based on how it should be according to the classical canons of beauty (a theory directly taken from the treatise of the Amsterdam art theorist Gerard Lairesse), and which he was able to develop because he was in contact with the works of Francis Van Bossuit, a sculptor who had previously lived and worked in Italy. Thus, Van Mieris borrowed some of his poses for his paintings. Among Van Mieris' most important pupils were the portraitist Hieronymous van der Mij, and his own son, Frans van Mieris the Younger. Throughout his career as an artist, Van Mieris achieved remarkable popularity in the Netherlands, with paintings in the collections of many eminent members of the new Dutch aristocracy, as well as foreign nobles such as the Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Van Mieris is currently represented in the most important art galleries worldwide, including the British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum Boijamns Van Beuningen, the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, the Pinacoteca de Brescia, the RISD Museum or the Walters Art Museum, among others.
