    Plate XIII and P1128L in the upper right-hand corner, this engraving depicts a Curlew, with R Mitford at the bottom of the plate, near the edge of the water; Robert Mitford (1781 - 1870) was a noted British etcher and engraver and the brother-in-law of Prideaux John Selby (1788 - 1867), a noted British etcher and engraver whose works are featured here in this auction; Mitford was taught to etch and engrave by Thomas Bewick in Newcastle and Mitford passed on what he learned to Selby; unframed, the plate measures 27 3/4 x 22 1/4 and the image is 21 x 16 1/4 in. wide, to benefit the Sarasota Audubon Society.
