      Oil on canvas, framed measurements: 132 x 103, canvas measurements: 111 x 82 cm. Gabriel Morcillo Raya (Granada, February 18, 1887 – Ibid, December 22, 1973) was a Spanish painter. He began his artistic training in the family environment in the embroidery workshop of his aunt Paquita Raya and at the Granada School of Fine Arts with teachers Miguel Vico Hernández and José de Larrocha González. After returning to Granada, he entered the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Granada and Malaga as a full academician. In 1918 he obtained a scholarship to the Academy of Painting in Rome, which he resigned from, thus beginning a period of atypical isolation for other painters in his class. In 1927 he agreed to a position as professor of Decorative Painting and Figure of the Natural in the School of Arts and Crafts of Granada, which he had already been exercising as an interim since 1922. His work is mainly composed of landscapes and portraits where orientalism has a great influence. and sensuality. Reaching great success in New York, Buenos Aires or Venice. Some of his canvases can be seen in the Museum of Fine Arts of Granada, such as the one entitled El enano de Puerto Real (1916). He was a teacher and influenced the work of other outstanding painters, among them Miguel López Aguilera, Rafael Revelles or Fernando González and Antonio García Carrillo.
