b. 1873 - d. 1943

Abraham Mordkhine grew up in Russia and moved to Paris in 1927, in order to become active as a painter. He focused on still life painting, but occasionally also executed landscape and town views. In the course of the National Socialism he was deported to Poland, where he finally died in 1943. Today, Abraham Mordkhine is only known to a small circle of art lovers, since the preservation of his oeuvre has been deeply affected through his dramatic biography. During the last years, however, his works have been repeatedly exhibited in Paris, Turin and Jerusalem.

It depicts a bouquet of meadow flowers in a vase presented on a simple table. The composition captivates through the impressionistic style that renders the unpretentious motif a charming touch. The painting is signed and dated lower right 'A. Mordkhine 29'. It is verso partly illegibly inscribed and additionally signed 'Peint par [...] A. Mordkhine'. The painting as well as the wooden frame are in good overall condition considering their age. The framed work measures 100 x 84.5 cm and the size of the stretcher is 81 x 65 cm.
