    Sommerliche Obstwiese mit Pferd und Hühnern. -- Öl auf Leinwand. 33,7 x 44,7 cm. Unten rechts signiert "Hugo Mühlig". -- -- Hugo Mühlig war der Sohn des Dresdner Malers Meno Mühlig und studierte nach erstem Unterricht bei seinem Vater an der Dresdner Kunstakademie von 1877 bis 1880 unter Viktor Paul Mohn. Stilistisch orientierte er sich zunächst am Realismus der Schule Ludwig Richters. Bald darauf entwickelte er jedoch schon seinen eigenen vom Impressionismus beeinflussten Stil. Nach seiner Übersiedlung nach Düsseldorf verbrachte er die Sommer häufig in der Willingshausener Künstlerkolonie, in deren Umgebung er viele Anregungen für seine Gemälde sammelte.     (1854 Dresden - 1929 Düsseldorf) Kartoffelernte am Niederrhein Szene in weiter, niederrheinischer Landschaft mit Männern, Frauen und einem Knaben beim gemeinschaftlichen Kartoffellesen. Mit höchst virtuosen, locker gesetzten, nuancierten Pinselstrichen gemaltes, charakteristisches, lichterfülltes, stimmungsvolles Werk Hugo Mühligs, der 1877-1880 an der Akademie in Dresden Meisterschüler Viktor Paul Mohns war. Neben solchen Kartoffelernteszenen sind Mühligs Winterlandschaften mit Jagdgesellschaften von besonderer künstlerischer Qualität. Er entwickelte bei beiden Sujets einen eigenen impressionistischen Malstil, sie ragen durch ihre meisterhafte, subtile Wiedergabe der Lichtstimmungen in der Landschaft und im Schnee heraus. Vergleichbare Kartoffelernte-Gemälde zeigte Mühlig u. a. in der Dresdener Akademie (1880), der Berliner Internationalen Kunstausstellung (1891), der Berliner Akademie der Künste (1892) und im Münchener Glaspalast (1894).
