Another member of the Düsseldorf School, Andreas Müller studied under members of the Nazarene movement at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts and the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. Under the influence of Ernst Deger, he turned his focus firmly to religious art. He accompanied Deger to Rome in 1837 where he joined the Nazarenes for four years, embracing their philosophy that art should contain the spiritual values that they believed had vanished from artistic production after the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Following his return to Düsseldorf, Müller was granted a professorship at the Kunstakademie, allowing him to further expand his legacy. HID01801242017
