Hans Muller (1873-1937) Austrian, Bronze Figural Lamp. Pastoral figure, titled "The Sower." Signed on side of bronze part of base. Takes two lightbulbs, which work. Size: 10 X 5 1/2 X 30 in. #3975 . Hans Müller was born in 1873 in Vienna, Austria. He was a sculptor, and the son of Francis Xavier. Muller studied at the School of Applied Arts and Academy in Vienna under Edmund von Hellmer and Karl Ludwig August Kuehne. He worked from 1900 to 1905 in the studio of Friedrich Christoph Hausmann in Frankfurt, Germany. In 1909 he became a member of the Viennese Artists Cooperative. Although he is probably best known for his portraits and sculptural busts of the famous members of Viennese society, he did create figurative and animal sculptures, mostly of hunting dogs and peasants. Many of his sculptural pieces are on permanent display in the Simu Museum in Bucharest, Hungary. After World War I he was entrusted with the construction of the memorial pieces in his hometown honoring those who gave their lives during the war. He died in his home in 1937.

HANS MÜLLER (Vienna, 1873-1937). "The Strongman, ca. 1900. Patinated bronze. Signed on the base. Marble base. It presents marks of use and some chipping in the marble. Measurements: 31 x 10 x 9 cm (bronze); 11 cm (height of base). Hans Müller studied at the Vienna Academy, where he was a pupil of Edmund Hellmmer. He was especially known for his busts of famous Viennese society figures such as his bust of Beethoven and the poet Robert Burns, as well as Napoleon Bonaparte. He also executed numerous everyday scenes and popular types. His work is housed in the National Museum of Art in Bucharest, Hungary.
