          [Prints] Mueller, Hans Alexander (German, 1888-1962) Portfolio Collection Comprising 20 engravings and woodcuts (12 in color), all signed in pencil by Mueller. Various sizes, ranging from 2 1/2 x 3 in. to 11 x 14 3/4 in. Including illustrations for Joseph Conrad's Lord Jim, a work by Knut Hamsun, portraits of John Adams and Theodore Roosevelt, as well as other scenes and illustrations. Presumably in Mueller's own quarter white cloth over board portfolio; paper label of Staatliche Akademie fur Graphische Kunste und Buchgewerbe, Leipzig 1926 on front cover, worn and rubbed. Print condition varies, some matted, others with old glue residue to corners, scattered tears and creasing to edges. Hans Alexander Mueller (1888-1962), was a printer and book illustrator; born in Nordhausen, Germany he studied and later taught at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig. He emigrated to the U.S. in the mid 1930's and established himself as a renowned illustrator for many works by Conrad, Stevenson, and Hamsun. The December 4, 1939 issue of Life Magazine featured a profile of him for the release of his book, 'Woodcuts & Engravings: How I Make Them.'
