E. Steinle inv. | C. Müller sculp.". At the lower part inscribed in the printing plate: "Decollavit eum in carcere, et attulit caput ejus in disco. Marc. VI, 27,29.". Date: 19th century Description: The finely executed steel engraving etching shows the biblical scene of the beheading of John the Baptist: John kneels in the foreground with his hands folded and his eyes lowered, while the executioner stands ready with his sword drawn. In the background, Salome and Herodias watch the scene with mixed emotions. Herodias is already holding the tray in her hand - a reference to the imminent handover of the head to King Herod.     Carl Müller (1818 Darmstadt - 1893 Bad Neuenahr) after Friedrich August Frenzel (born 1814 ): "The Enfeoffment of Frederick the Brave with the Electorate", 1835, Lithography Technique: Lithography on Paper Date: 1835 Description: Lithograph by Carl Müller, inscribed: "F. A. Frenzel inv &amp del. Dresden 1835 lith. by Carl Müller Die Belehnung Friedrich`s des Streitbaren mit der Kurwürde". Very nice historical depiction. In front of a town knights have gathered, they frame the central scene: Emperor Sigismund enfeoffs the kneeling Margrave Frederick of Meissen with the Electorate of Saxony on August 1, 1425 in Ofen, accompanied by a numerous retinue. This is the enfeoffment of Frederick IV, the Quarrelsome (1370 - 1428). Frederick, who from this date called himself Frederick I and was now duke and elector, had supported King Sigismund of Hungary against the Hussites. In return, he received the Duchy of Saxony-Wittenberg and the Palatinate of Saxony. Friedrich August Frenzel (Dresden 1814 - Dresden 1898) was a German history painter, draughtsman and lithographer. Frenzel studied at the academy of arts in Karlsruhe. The Dresden Kupferstichkabinett owns three of Frenzel's rare drawings. The graphics were published in 1837 in the "Saxonia - Museum für Sächsische Vaterlandskunde" (5 vols.) by Eduard Pietzsch in Dresden.
