    PORTRAIT EINES ELEGANTEN HERREN Öl auf Leinwand. 76 x 63,5 cm. Links unten signiert und datiert „Murray 1718“. Ungerahmt. Brustbildnis des Herren, leicht nach links geneigt, mit langer grauer Allongeperücke, einer goldbestickten Weste und darüber einer eleganten Jacke. Um den Hals trägt er ein weißes, lang herabhängendes, gebundenes Tuch. Vereinzelt rest., teils berieben. Anmerkung: Der Künstler war ein bedeutender schottischer Portraitmaler. Seinen ersten Kunstunterricht erhielt er bei De Critz, später wurde er Schüler von John Riley (1646-1691), einem englischen Portraitmaler. Er war sehr erfolgreich und fertigte zahlreiche Portraits an, u.a. König Wilhelm und Königin Maria, Prinz Georg von Hessen-Darmstadt (Grafschaft) und einigen Bischöfen. (1431333) (18)

Brustporträt eines Herren mit heller Lockenfrisur, er ist bekleidet mit einer goldbestickten Weste und dunkler Jacke, um den Hals trägt er ein weißes gebundenes Tuch.- Thomas Murray fertigte zehn Jahre später im Jahr 1728 ein Porträt des britischen Geistlichen Richard Smalbroke (1672-1749), das Ähnlichkeiten mit vorliegendem Porträt aufweist.- Äußerster Bildrand sowie Keilrahmen mit schwarzem Leinwandstreifen umklebt. Einige kleine Randläsionen, teilweise etwas berieben.-
