In overall good condition, with a shiny finish which betrays an excess of varnish. With small flake at upper center, and at center left along the left outer edge of the work. Examination under UV light reveals a thick layer of old greenish varnish throughout, which explains the shiny aspect of the work. We see broad inpainting along the top outer edge of the work. (41 x 51.1cm) Provenance Bernard Danenberg Galleries, Inc., New York, New York. Goldfield Galleries, Los Angeles, California. Sotheby’s, New York, sale of May 28, 1987, lot 261. Acquired directly from the above sale. Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold and Sandy Rifkin, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Exhibited "Art in Westchester," The Hudson River Museum, Yonkers, New York, September 24-November 2, 1989, no. 45. The wax-lined canvas in overall very good condition. With two small pinholes at upper right and bottom left corners. The canvas would benefit from a very light cleaning. We do notice a very minor trace of inpainting on the girl's dress at bottom left. There also appear to be scattered, pinpoint inpainting along the top outer edge, but it could also be recess from an excess of varnish. Only a cleaning would confirm. Examination under UV light reveals an inconsistent layer of old greenish varnish throughout. With some localized restoratation at upper left in the sky (isolated dots), as well as at upper right corner (in the corner). Some fluorescence (which is not restoration in our opinion at upper right, to the right of the silos, and at center left, on the faraway colorful shaks. Light restoration (mostly likely to cover prior scuffs) at center right across the windows, and center left on the roof (very minor). The rest of the composition is mostly untouched, save for localized inpainting on the girls at bottom left, the little girl at center (to her right) as well as the group of figures at bottom right (mostly on their dresses, but also to parts of their figures).
