      A fine drawing of a seated nobleman, possibly by Nainsukh (circa 1710-1778), India, circa 1750, pencil and gouache on paper, the bearded kneeling figure with finely drawn robes the reverse with "No. 83" in a 19th century hand, two later pencil inscriptions O. Weiss, a piece of paper glued down with "Nainsukh" in Gurumkhi script in pencil, on a gold-flecked album page, drawing 9.3 x 7.2cm., album page 35.2 x 27.8cm. Provenance: The Hugh Brogden (1936-2019) Collection; formerly in the collection of O. Weiss Hugh Brogden was son of the writer and scholar Sir Denis Brogden and archaeologist Olwen Phillis Francis (Lady Brogen) OBE. Educated at Cambridge, he was a Fellow at St. John's and joined the University of Essex later becoming Emiritus Professor in the Department of History specialising in American historical studies. His published works include The Longman History of the Untied States, A biography of John F Kennedy and biographies of writers Rudyard Kipling and Arthur Ransome. His private collection was offered at auction at Reeman Dansie Auctioneers on August 11 and 25 2020. Please refer to department for condition report
