Artist Tadashi Nakayama was born in Niigata, Japan in 1927. Tadashi Nakayama's prints are nature-oriented, and his best-known artworks are woodblock prints depicting galloping horses. He also created prints of butterflies and girls, sometimes using up to 18 blocks to complete a piece.

Artist Tadashi Nakayama used metallic pigments, sometimes using 40 colors in one print, and many of the pieces went through 50 printing stages. Known as a master of woodblock prints, he taught at the Bath Academy of Arts from 1964 to 1965. Originals of Tadashi Nakayama's art for sale are rare, as, after 1981, he only made small editions of two or three prints a year. Tadashi Nakayama was a Japanese woodblock print artist whose work melded elements of traditional ukiyo-e prints with Western painting influences. He initially studied oil painting at Tama Art College but left in 1947. From 1962 to 1965, Nakayama lived in Milan, Italy, and later in England, where he also taught at the Bath Academy of Arts. His art often features motifs such as butterflies, horses, cranes, and girls with long flowing hair. In his later years, some of his work was inspired by Persian, Byzantine, and Renaissance styles. 20.1/2 in. x 15.1/2 in. (sight), 29.1/2 in. x 24.1/4 in. (frame).

Provenance: according to the consignor 'the print was given to Mr. & Mrs. Donn Chown by Mr. Jay Blackton, when he was the musical director for "Hello, Dolly" with Mary Martin. It was the first leg of a World Tour for the musical company in 1965. Mr. Chown was the Cultural Attache for the American Embassy, in Tokyo, Japan. He served as the Control Officer, which meant he traveled with the touring company in Japan.' Measurements: Height: by sight, 29 3/8 in. x Width: 20 1/2 in.
