She graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 1994. During her student time, she started participating group exhibitions in the U.S. From 1997, she started her art residency in Paris, and won The Travel Award (Cite International des Arts, Paris, France). In 1998, Sung graduated from RCA with an MFA. In 2001, her first solo exhibition was hosted in Window Gallery in Seoul. As one of the most important abstract artists in post-war South Korea, she has participated exhibitions globally, including multiple art museums and galleries in Denmark, New York, Shanghai, etc. Her painting works are excellently executed with the beauty of forms and colours, with exquisite and fine strokes. Her feminine approach has pushed the boundary of the monotone on colours and the limitation of medium materials in traditional Korean paintings. Both her paper works and mural works are uniquely signatural, formed her own language in paintings.

        Est: £2,500 - £3,500

UNTITLED 70 by 80cm.; 27½ by 31½in. signed and dated 2003 on the overlap acrylic on canvas While reminiscent of postwar action painting of Jackson Pollock and other abstract expressionists, the use of vibrant colour in Sung's painting is also suggestive of graffiti art within urban popular culture. The fusion of densely applied fluorescent acrylic paint creates a rich visual expression, quite unique within the rubric of contemporary Asian art. SUNG NAKHEE

        Est: $7,000 - $12,000

        B. 1971 LOUNGE AREA 31 1/2 39 1/4 in. 80 by 100 cm. signed and dated 2005 on the reverse flashe paint on canvas NOTE Sung Nakhee is known for creating large wall paintings with colorful, intricate compositions using spray paint and vinyl. Her smaller works on paper and canvas often employ informal materials such as markers and reveal on a more intimate scale the artist's interest in negative and positive, foreground and background. Her images oscillate between eloquent patterns of methodical organization and an agglomeration of colors, lines and shapes that threatens to break free into chaos.
