Monica Napaltjarri is a second generation Papunya Desert artist who paints traditional images from her grandmother’s country near Kiwirrkura. The Women’s Dreaming stories that she focuses on in her paintings refer to ceremonial sites at Patinya and Karilwara.

Monica Napaltjarri was born c1960 on her traditional country to the south of Kiwirrkura. She joined the Desert art movement in the mid 1990s, painting her first canvas along with other women artists at Kiwirrkura. After 2000 Monica Napaltjarri began to paint more regularly, using the time-honoured Pintupi images that refer to her ancestral country. Her style and colour selection are typical of the Western Desert painters of her region. Monica Napaltjarri participated in the exhibition ‘In Black and White’ at Japingka Gallery in 2011. Aboriginal art status – Mid career artist.
