The women have been gathering the edible seeds known as wangunu of woollybult from the grass Eragrostis criopoda. These seeds are ground, mixed with water to a thick paste and formed into a type of damper which is cooked in the ashes. The women later travelled east to Pinari, north-west of Kintore.

The roundel in this work represents the rockhole at the site, while the lines represent the tali (sandhills) which surround Umari. A number of ancestral women gathered at Umari to perform ceremonies associated with the site. The women, one of the Nagala kinship subsection and the others of the Napaltjarri kinship subsection, later travelled towards the east. At this site they collected the small seeds known as wangunu or woollybutt from the perennial grass Eragrostis eriopoda, to grind into a paste to make damper. The women also gathered large quantities of the edible fruit known as pura (also known in Pintupi as pintalpa), or bush tomato, from the small shrub Solanum chippendalei. This fruit is the size of a small apricot, and after the seeds have been removed, can be stored for long periods by halving the fruit and skewering them onto a stick. One of the ancestral stories associated with the area concerns a relationship between a man of the Tjakamarra kinship subsection and a woman of the Nagala kinship subsection. Tjunkiya Napaltjarri & Wintjiya Napaltjarri - Women's Dreaming at Mulpurringa and Umari, 1997

Tjunkiya, her sister Wintjiya and their mother Mitjili Napurrula, participated in the women's camp near Haasts Bluff in 1994 that initiated painting amongst the Pintupi women. Their individual paintings generally depict designs associated with important rockhole sites situated in sandhill country, east of Mt. Webb in Western Australia. This painting depicts the travels of a group of women to Mulpurringa and Umari, north-west of the Kintore Community. The four oblong shapes represent digging sticks and the 'U' shapes are the women. At each of the sites visited the women sang the songs and performed the dances associated with the area.

Tjunkiya Napaltjarri 2007 Umari synthetic polymer paint on Belgian linen 107 x 28 cm PROVENANCE: Kimberley Australian Aboriginal Art Certificate of Authenticity. OTHER NOTES: This painting depicts designs associated with the rockhole site of Umari, situated in sandhill country, east of Mt. Webb in Western Australia. A number of women gathered at the site to perform ceremonies. The women, one of the Nangala kinship subsection and the others of the Napaltjarri kinship subsection, later travelled towards the east. One of the mythologies associated with the area concerns a relationship between a man of Tjakamarra kinship subsection and a women of the Nangala kinship subsection. This is a mother-in-law relationship which is very taboo in Aboriginal culture.

Webb) in Western Australia. The various shapes in this painting depict the puli (rocky outcrops), tali (sandhills) and water sources of the area. A group of ancestral women once gathered at this site to perform ceremonies associated with Umair. The women, one of the Nangala kinship subsection and the others of the Napaltjarri kinship subsection, later continued travelling toward the east. One of the mythologies associated with the Umari area concerns a relationship between a man of the Tjakamarra kinship subsection and a woman of the Nangala kinship subsection.
