    Napier Hemy, Charles 1841 Newcastle-upon-Tyne - 1917 Falmouth. Fishing boat and cottage at the seashore. Oil on canvas. Signed lower left and dated 1896. Verso inscribed with the artist's data. H 21, W 41 cm (support). Framed. Charles Napier Hemy was based in Cornwall and is known for his marine pieces. In 1910 he was elected a member of the Royal Academy London. He was not only a painter, but a profound connoisseur of the sea. Napier Hemy even had his own ship converted into a studio where he studied and painted the Cornish coast directly from the sea. The present work is probably an oil study from an early period of his career. Literature: Margaret Powell, Master of the Sea, Charles Napier Hemy RA, RWS, Penzance 2004, p. 31, ill. 21 (cf.). Condition report: Good overall impression. Early shrinking cracks, minor spots (1 to 2 mm) on all sides, small retouchings (approx. 3 cm) lower right. DEUTSCH: Napier Hemy, Charles 1841 Newcastle-upon-Tyne - 1917 Falmouth. Fischerboot und Fischerkate am Meeresufer. Öl auf Leinwand. U.l. sign. und 1896 dat. Verso bez. mit den Angaben zum Künstler. H. 21, B. 41 cm (Bildträger). Gerahmt. Charles Napier Hemy war in Cornwall ansässig und ist bekannt für seine Marinestücke. 1910 wurde er zum Mitglied der Royal Academy London gewählt. Er war nicht nur ein Maler, sondern ein profunder Kenner des Meeres. Napier Hemy ging so weit, dass er sogar ein eigenes Schiff zum Atelier umbauen ließ, in dem er direkt vom Meer aus die Küste Cornwalls studierte und malte. Beim vorliegenden Werk handelt es sich vermutlich um eine Ölstudie aus einer frühen Werkphase.
