          English School (early 19th century) Portrait two young sisters, believed to be Emily and Susan Napier, the daughters of General Sir Charles James Napier (1782-1853), in blue dresses, one holding a tray of fruit the reverse inscribed 'Susan & Emily Napier. Daughters of Sir Charles Napier by Anastasia his Greek mistress...' with further details regarding Susan's marriage to William McMurdo watercolour 18 x 15cm Provenance: By descent in the family of Sir Charles Napier until around twenty years ago, when acquired by the present vendor The presumed sitters are Emily Cephalonia Napier and Susan Sarah Napier. Both were born illegitimately, circa 1824, to Sir Charles Napier with Anastasia - a native Greek woman who Napier lived with during his time on Cephalonia. Susan later married Sir William Montagu Scott McMurdo (1819-1894) and Emily wed Major-General William Craig Emilius Napier (1818-1903), their cousin.

Druck v. A. Waldow sen in Berlin". The print was made by the Rocca brothers in Berlin. Below the image there is a blind stamp of the publishers "Gebrüd: Rocca in Berlin". Date: 19th century Description: Lithograph on strong paper. Half-length portrait in three-quarter profile with numerous orders of merit. Person: Charles James Napier (1782 London-1853 Oakland) was a British general, commander-in-chief of the troops of the British East India Trading Company.
