Edith Naske, Watercolour 'Bouquet of Flowers', Austria, 1956

      Est: €480 - €600

Watercolour and gouache on cardboard Vienna, Austria, 1956 Edith Naske (1901-1963) - Russian-Austrian artist Signed and dated 'Naske 56' lower right A beautiful bouquet of flowers in the artist's typical style Overall dimensions: 62.8 x 47.8 cm Good condition Provenance: German private collection This fine watercolour was painted by the Austrian artist Edith Naske in 1956. The artist depicted the flowers wet in wet, so that the colours appear exceptionally soft. The contours of the blossoms were accentuated with strong black and blue lines, afterwards. The watercolour is in a good overall condition with some traces of age and wear. The cardboard is slightly yellowed. The surface of the firmly fixed passepartout is also a bit stained. The work is signed and dated "Naske 56" at the lower right. The cardboard measures 62.8 cm in height and 47.8 cm in width. Edith Naske (1901-1963) Edith Naske, born in Russia in 1901, was a well-known artist in Vienna and committed her artistic work especially to the Austrian Modern Art style. Watercolours had been her preferred medium, whereas thematically, she was most interested in depictions of landscapes and floral still lifes. Edith Naske was a forgotten artist for many years, until the famous Austrian art dealer Erich Tromayer rediscovered her works in the 1970s.
