        Color Drawing on Paper USA, 1977 Grim Natwick (1890 - 1990)—American animation artist and director Signed and dated lower right by Grim Natwick With certificate of authenticity from Choice Fine Art Dimensions: 12 ½ x 8 ½ in. (31.8 x 21.6 cm.) Good condition Estimate: $4,000 The character of Betty Boop was created in 1930 by Max Fleische and Grim Natwick. In this later rendition, Natwick has reimagined her without her signature black hair and red dress, but with platinum blonde locks, a red leotard, and blue tights. The work is inscribed lower right in red pen “Grim Natwick ‘77”. Grim Natwick (American, 1890-1990) Considered one of the masters of his craft, Grim Natwick is best known as the creator of the animated character, Betty Boop, which often in the past was credited to Max Fleischer as she debuted in his Out of the Inkwell series. While working for the Fleischer Studios in 1939, Natwick was also in charge of drawing the Prince and the Princess for Gulliver's Travels. Natwick also worked for Disney Studios and worked on the film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), as the lead animator of the character. He also helped to animate Mickey Mouse in Fantasia, Mr. Magoo, Popeye, Felix the Cat and many other '40s and '50s cartoon greats. Condition The work is in good condition with tape staining to the edges. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
