      Property from the Estate of Enrique Arias, Alachua, Florida Description: Manuel Neto Chong (Panama, 1927-2010), Man with Cane, Oil on Canvas, signed lower right, depicting a man with hat and cane. Frame size: 37 in. x 25 1/4 in. Manuel Neto Chong was born in 1927 to a Chinese father and a Panamanian mother. In 1952 he started his painting studies at the National School of Art, where he remained until 1965 when he enrolled at the National Autonomous University of Mexico to specialise in graphic arts. He took part in collective and individual exhibitions from 1961 onwards. In addition to being an artist, Chong Neto worked as a teacher. He would later become a high school art teacher and, after 1970, also taught at the Casa de la Escultura, National School of Art, and National University. Known mainly for his 'gorditas' or 'chongnetian' female figures, as they are known, Chong Neto also stands out for his still-life work.
