PAUL NEUENBORN (1866-1913) AUSSTELLUNG DAS TIER IN DER KUNST. 1905. 38x27½ inches, 96½x70 cm. Münchener Graph., Velisch. Condition B+: small loss in upper right margin; repaired tears at edges, some slightly into image; creases and abrasions in image and along horizontal fold; small stains in image from foxing on verso; mounted on old linen. Neuenborn, a painter and illustrator who specialized in animals, was a member of the Society of Illustrators and, briefly, of the Werkbund. In this rare poster, he not only shows his talent for drawing animals (pelicans, specifically), but also his talent for composition and layout. The image is carefully framed within the border and puts two dark-colored, detailed birds in the foreground and a diagonal line of much lighter birds in the background. The large amount of text is clearly organized at the bottom, making for a well-designed and well-balanced poster. DFP-III 2352.

Paviane - Giraffen. 2 Kohlezeichnungen auf Bütten. Jeweils sign., nicht dat. (um 1890). 32 x 21,5 und 30 x 23,3 cm. Die beiden Skizzenblätter studieren die Tiere in ihren natürlichen Haltungen. Das Blatt mit Giraffen hat der Tiermaler und Illustrator dabei beidseitig verwendet.

Der Komponist Hermann Bischoff. Kohle, Farbkreide und Tusche auf Bütten, auf Karton. Monogr., nicht dat. (um 1900). 46,5 x 30,5 cm. Der heute kaum noch bekannte Komponist ist als Dirigent am Notenpult, mit Taktstock in der Hand, frontal zu sehen. Die Augen blicken durch einen Zwicker geradewegs auf den Betrachter, als wolle Bischoff ihm den Einsatz geben. Neuenborn hält den umseitig als "Tonkünstler" bezeichneten Bischoff in leicht karikierender Weise mitten in seiner Tätigkeit fest.

Neuenborn, Paul (Illustrator Stolberg 1866 - 1913 München). Eigenhändige Postkarte an Carl Strathmann (Illustrator 1866-1939) mit farb. Federzeichnung. Mit ligiertem Monogramm. Schwer leserlicher Poststempel aus München von 1905. 9 x 14 cm. Die Künstler Neuenborn und Strathmann studierten einst gemeinsam an der Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, bevor es beide auf unterschiedlichen Wegen nach München zog, wo sie u.a. auch mit Lovis Corinth eng befreundet waren und die dortige Bohème durchstreiften.- Die Zeichnung stellt einen Herren im Anzug und Zwicker auf einem Podest dar, neben ihm zwei weitere Figuren, die ihn mit einer Waffe bedrohen, darüber der Text 'Westöstlicher Friedhof, Carl wo weilest Du werden seit 3 Tagen unsichtbar?'. Verso adressiert und bezeichnet (teils von anderer Hand): 'Rats Keller Sonntag abend. Die trauernd Hinterbliebenen: H. Lehmann-Neuenborn. Ergebenst Walther Lehmann' sowie ein ligiertes Monogramm.- Ein Handschriftenvergleich von Postkarten Paul Neuenborns zeigen starke Ähnlichkeit der Schriften.- Dabei: Postkarte an Carl Strathmann. Poststempel 'Pasing 6. Mar 08'. Mit Federzeichnung eines Karnevals-Narren. 9 x 14 cm.- Handschriftlich bezeichnet 'Vom Kölner Carneval zurück zur Natur in Pasing.
