The old Wabasso wooden bridge, that opened in 1920, stretches over the serene water. The old bridge keeper's home, shaded by a grand oak, that sat at the crossing's heart. Scattered palms frame the beach side view. A sailboat glides under sunny, peachy skies, reflecting onto the tranquil blue waters. This quaint spot, once a fishing haven, captures the charm of old Florida. Board measures 20x24 framed to overall size of 24x28. On Labor Day in 1920, a new wooden Vero Bridge opened and access to the ocean was available to all who lived on the Vero mainland. The bridge tender lived in a house near the middle of the crossing and would open the metal swing span by hand for boat traffic. Tolls were charged to cross the bridge, ranging from 5 cents for pedestrians, to 10 cents for horses, and 35 cents for delivery trucks.
