His grandparents, William and Catherine Nisbet had emigrated from the Scottish border country to the United States.Robert entered the Rhode Island School of Design when he was eight, and later studied in New York and abroad. He taught at Brown University and was president of the Art Students League of New York, where he served as president from 1910-1911. He was elected an Associate Member of the National Academy of Design in 1920 and a National Academician (N.A.) in 1928. He was an Artist Life member of the National Arts Club.     This early 20th century etching by the American artist Robert Hogg Nisbet measures 8 7/8 x 11 7/8 inches, pencil signed and titled. Nisbet's artistic talents were apparent at an early age, enrolled in the Rhode Island School of Design at age 8. With some schooling in NY and time abroad, he later taught at Brown University. Among his many accomplishments were several etching awards, and the National Arts Club prize. Near the end of his life he settled in Kent, Conn where he founded the Kent Art Association. His works are exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery and Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.

    Two (2) Robert Hogg Nisbet (Connecticut, Rhode Island 1879-1961) etchings. Both signed in pencil lower right. Smallest measures 6.5-in. x 7.875-in. sheet size, largest 11.375-in. x 8.625-in. sheet size. Both in good condition with minor toning. Both unframed, loose and not mounted or glued down. If lot is absent of a condition report one may be requested via email. Condition report is provided as an opinion only and is no guarantee as grading can be subjective. Buyer must view photographs or scans to assist in determining condition and ask further questions if so desired. Our in-house shipping department will gladly pack and ship any item that fits into a 14x14x14 inch or 30x5x24 inch or equivalent or smaller box/folio if it is not fragile or over 25lbs. We will charge for labor to pack and process based on actual time it takes, actual cost of materials used to pack and actual shipper charges that will include insurance and signature required.
