    An original copperplate engraving on laid paper by English artist George Noble (fl. 1795-1806) titled "George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham, at Somerset House", 1784. After a painting by C. Johnson. Printed and published June 29th, 1784 in London, UK. Beautifully framed with molding from Spain and a rich velvet mat from Holland. All archival. Framed size: 22.25" x 18.5". Image size/platemark: 12.5" x 8.25". In excellent condition.George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham KG (28 August 1592-23 August 1628) was the favorite, claimed by some to be the lover, of King James I of England. Despite a very patchy political and military record, he remained at the height of royal favor for the first three years of the reign of Charles I, until he was assassinated by a disgruntled army officer.George Noble (fl. 1795-1806) was an English line-engraver. The son of Edward Noble, author of Elements of Linear Perspective, he was brother to Samuel Noble and William Bonneau Noble.
