      Wonderful oil on panel painting by post impressionist artist John "Wichita Bill" Noble, (Mass, New York 1874 - 1934). Signed lower right. Excellent image depicting the moon shining over the harbor. Verso is written "HarborProvincetown", John Noble copyright. Image size seen approx. 19.5" x 15.5", overall frame size approx. 23.5" x 19.5". Noble was born in 1874 to an upper-middle-class family that had emigrated from England. He was a noted post-impressionistpainter of cowboys, sunrises and seascapes. He wore a five-gallon hat, called himself the "first white child born in Wichita." He often advised prospective customers not to buy his paintings, and he often slashed them up and sometimes evenbought back pictures he had sold, just to mutilate them. At age 29, he went to France where he took on the fictionalized persona of "Wichita Bill." Noble had exhibitions of hsi work at the Daniel Gallery in 1920, the Rehn Galleries in 1922, andMilch Galleries in 1925.
