Lower left reads "AYR Brown Carrick Hill Scotland." Preparatory sketch for a larger work. Scale is seen top and left and is an interesting insight to the artist's technique. Signature: Lower right Date of Work: 1886 Frame: Later Work Size: 7.5" H x 9.5"W Frame Size: 11" H x 13" W x 2" D Weight: 1.5 pounds Condition: Minor in-paint on upper right edge. Artist Biography: Landscape painter who emigrated from Great Britain to New York City in 1858. He worked in partnership with James Northcote(1822-1904) who was likely his brother in NYC.
