Title is Springtime. 4 5/8" tall, 1 3/4" diameter. Lawrence Nowlan (Born 1965) is active/lives in New Hampshire. Lawrence Nowlan is known for Sculptor-figurative and bas relief. The following is from the artist's website: www.ljnsculpture.com Specializing in figurative sculpture and bas relief, 33 year-old Lawrence Nowlan is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the first artist to emerge from the large family since his grandfather, Philip Nowlan, created Buck Rogers in 1929. Nowlan attended Millersville University of Pennsylvania where he first fell in love with the art of bronze sculpting. As an undergraduate, Nowlan served as a teachers assistant in the University's foundry and studied all aspects of bronze casting. After graduating with a BFA, Nowlan worked as an art director in a Philadelphia design firm for several years until the itch to sculpt became unavoidable. In 1994 Nowlan resumed his studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and, from there, went on to earn his Masters in Fine Art from the prestigious New York Academy of Art, Graduate School of Figurative Art. His training at both institutions has allowed Nowlan to flourish in figurative sculpting, but it's his natural love for the labor of bronze casting that impassions every piece that the hands of this artist touch. Nowlan has completed a legion of sculptures including numerous commissions for corporations and individuals. In the spring of 1995 Nowlan was selected from an elite group of artists nationwide to serve as sculptor-in-residence at the St. Gaudens National Historic Site in Cornish, New Hampshire, which hosts the oldest artist residency program in the National Park Service. Working out of the park's historic Ravine Studio, Nowlan spent three years sculpting, demonstrating technique to park visitors and teaching sculpting workshops for children and adults. In 1996 Nowlan was chosen from a group of eighty respected sculptors nationwide to design and sculpt a National Monument to honor the more than 600 fire fighters who have given their lives fighting wildfires since 1910. The monument consists of three heroic-sized bronze figures and will be installed at the National Fire Center Headquarters in Boise, Idaho.
