Götz student Kjell Nupen. The current highest auction record for a painting in a similar format is more than €17,000 Kjell Nupen (1955-2014) is known for his ‘Nupen Blue’, which he has also used in the present late work entitled ‘Overmalet Postkort’ [Overpainted postcard]. While the blue reminiscent of works by Yves Klein, the gestural brushwork recalls the works of one of his teachers, Karl Otto Götz. Condition: The painting is in very good condition, showing a few small nicks to the frame. The dimensions of the painting are 72 x 97 cm, and the wooden frame measures 77 x 102 cm. Kjell Nupen (1955-2014) From 1972 to 1975, the Norwegian artist Kjell Nupen studied at the Statens Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo under the guidance of Reidar Aulie, Knut Rose and Ludvig Eikaasan. From 1975 to 1976, he continued his studies at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf under Gerhard Richter, K. O. Götz and Rolf Sackheim. Already at this time, some of his works were purchased by the Riksgalleriet, the Nasjonalgalleriet and the Norsk Kulturrad. His early work was strongly influenced by the politics and the art of the Düsseldorf School. In the 1980s, he turned from figurative subjects to landscapes. His later works often revolves around the theme of quitness and belonging. Many works show the influence of Edvard Munch, Henri Matisse and Eadweard Muybridge. Besides being a painter, Nupen also worked as a graphic artist. In addition, Nupen produced many works for public spaces.
