      John Ogborne (1755 - 1837 ) after Robert Smirke (around 1752 Wigton, Cumberland - 1845 London): "Much ado about nothing", William SHAKESPEARE (1564-1616), Viel Lärm um nichts, 1791, Crayon manner Technique: Crayon manner on Laid paper Date: 1791 Description: Signed and titled "Painted by Rob.t Smirke / Shakespeare. Much ado about nothing, Act IV, Scene II", and with quotation: "O villain! thou wilt be condemn'd into everlasting redemption for this.", inscribed and dated below centre: "Published March 1791, by John & Josiah Boydell, at the Shakespeare Gallery Pall." John Ogborne was an English engraver who produced engravings after John Boydell, Robert Smirke and Thomas Stothard, as well as for Boydell's 'Shakespeare Gallery,' and a large number of plates after Angelica Kauffmann, William Hamilton, William Redmore Bigg, Richard Westall and Thomas Stothard. He also produced many portraits, including those for Thane's 'Illustrious British Characters.' The British painter Robert Smirke studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in London from 1772. Several well-known galleries own his works, including the Tate Gallery, the Guildhall Art Gallery and the Courtauld Institute of Art in London.
